Bike Transport from Bangalore to Another City: Documents, Packing and Checklist
Moving out of Bangalore for a new job, studies or a family move? Your bike is often one of the most important things to take along — and one of the easiest to damage if it is not transported properly. Here is a simple guide to shipping your bike or scooter from Bangalore to another city safely.
Riding vs professional bike transport
For short distances, some people prefer to ride. For long routes — Bangalore to Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Mumbai, Delhi or Kolkata — riding means fatigue, fuel, tolls, extra wear on the bike and highway risk. Documents to keep ready
- Copy of the bike's RC (Registration Certificate)
- Copy of a valid insurance policy
- Your ID proof and address proof
- Valid PUC certificate
Keep the originals with you, not with the bike. The transporter will also give you a consignment note or receipt listing the bike's details — keep it safe until delivery.
How to prepare your bike
- Wash it so existing scratches and dents are easy to see.
- Take photos and a video from all sides, and note the odometer reading.
- Remove accessories such as helmets, saddle bags, phone holders, mirrors that unscrew easily and anything loose.
- Keep very little fuel in the tank, as most transporters ask for this for safety.
- Check tyres and battery so the bike can be pushed and loaded easily. For long storage or transit, the transporter may advise disconnecting the battery.
How bikes are packed
A good mover wraps the bike in layers — foam or bubble wrap on the tank, handlebars, mirrors and other sensitive parts, then corrugated sheets and stretch wrap or a wooden crate, depending on the route. During loading, the bike is fixed upright inside the vehicle with straps so it does not move during transit.
Check the bike at pickup and delivery
At pickup, the transporter should note the bike's condition and any existing damage. At delivery, unpack it in front of the delivery team, compare it with your photos and the pickup notes, and only then sign the delivery receipt. If there is any damage, mention it on the receipt and inform the company immediately.
Transit insurance
Ask what transit insurance covers, the declared value of the bike, and how a claim works. Get the details in writing before you hand over the keys.
Moving to another state for good?
If you are shifting permanently to another state, your bike will generally need to be re-registered there within 12 months, which involves an NOC from the Bangalore RTO. Check the current process with the RTO before you move so the paperwork is ready.
